Forward a Subdomain

Now that you understand what a subdomain is, you may want to forward it to a separate URL, as opposed to pointing to an IP address or pointing to a server name.

  1. Log in to your GoWebsite account.
  2. Next to Domains, click Manage.

Now that you understand what a subdomain is, you may want to forward it to a separate URL, as opposed to pointing to an IP address or pointing to a server name.

  1. Log in to your GoWebsite account.
  2. Next to Domains, click Manage.
  3. How you forward your will depend on the view of your account.

    Card View

    In Card View, your account will look something like this:

    1. Select the domain name you want to use, click Text Icon (Settings) and select Manage DNS.
    2. Scroll all the way down to the Forwarding section.
    3. Next to Subdomain, click Add.
    4. For Subdomain, enter your subdomain name.
      • The value entered can include a period (.) but not as the first or last character.
      • Consecutive periods (...) are not allowed.
      • The entire value cannot exceed 25 characters.
    5. Under Forward to, select http:// or https://. For more information, see HTTP vs. HTTPS.
    6. Enter the URL you want to forward your domain name to.
    7. Select your Forward type:
      • Permanent (301): Redirects to the Website you specified in the Forward To field using a "301 Moved Permanently" HTTP response. The HTTP 301 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has permanently moved.
      • Temporary (302): Redirects to the Website you specified in the Forward To field using a "302 Found" HTTP response. The HTTP 302 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has temporarily moved.
    8. Select your Settings
      • Forward only: Forwards the domain without masking.
      • Forward with masking: Prevents the forwarded domain name URL from displaying in the browser's address bar, and lets you enter Meta Tags for search engine crawlers in the following fields:
        • Title - Displays at the top of the browser window and in search results
        • Description - A short description of your website to display in search engine results
        • Keywords - A list of comma-separated keywords that describes the content and purpose of your website

        Masking is incompatible with some Websites that use https://, i.e. SSL certificates.

    9. Click Save.

    List View

    In List View, your account will look something like this:

    1. Click on the domain name you want to use.
    2. On the Settings tab, under Forwarding, select Manage underneath Subdomain.
    3. Click Add Subdomain Forwarding and enter your subdomain name.
      • The value entered can include a period (.) but not as the first or last character.
      • Consecutive periods (...) are not allowed.
      • The entire value cannot exceed 25 characters.
    4. Under Forward to, select http:// or https://. For more information, see HTTP vs. HTTPS.
    5. Enter the URL you want to forward your domain name to.
