For a domain name to work with any hosting account, the domain name's Domain Name Servers (DNS) must be pointed to the hosting account's nameservers. Your hosting company provides the correct DNS addresses (minimum of two). Frequently, hosting companies also provide an IP address for the nameservers. We do not require an IP, only the nameservers.
To Point Your Domain Name to a Third-Party Host Company's Servers
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.
- Select the domain name(s) you want to modify.
- Click Nameservers.
- Select I have specific nameservers for my domains.
- In the Nameserver 1, 2, and 3 fields, enter the nameservers. You must enter at least two.
- Click OK.
Allow 4-8 hours for .com and .net domain names and about 24-48 hours for all other domain name extensions for the changes to take effect.
