Reboot Your Server

To reboot your server, you'll need to connect to it (via SSH for Linux and Remote Desktop for Windows) and issue a reboot command.

Linux

  1. Connect to your server via SSH.
  2. Switch to the root user.
  3. Reboot your server by running the following command:
    reboot

Windows

Which set of instructions you use depends on which version of Windows your server's running.

Windows 2008 & 2012

  1. Connect to your server via Remote Desktop.
  2. From the Start menu, select Restart.
  3. Select an option and enter a comment.
  4. Click OK.

Windows 2003

  1. Connect to your server via Remote Desktop.
  2. From the Start menu, select Shut Down.
  3. From the What do you want the computer to do? menu, select the action you want the take.
  4. Select an option and enter a comment.
  5. Click OK.
