Export QuickBlogcast to Wordpress

If you want to move your Quick Blogcast account to WordPress, you can use either of these stets of instructions.

Exporting Files

Using these instructions imports the following from Quick Blogcast:

  • Posts
  • Categories
  • Comments
  • Trackbacks

The following information will not be imported:

  • Tags
  • Template and design. You will need to pick a new template and redesign their website in Wordpress. The templates in QBC are not available in WordPress.
  • Authors / Commenters / Subscribers
  • Videos / Images / Files in the posts

After completing these steps, your posts will continue to display videos, photos, and files because they are still available using the resources hosted on Quick Blogcast. However, after June 25, these will no longer work because we are retiring Quick Blogcast. For your photos and files to continue to work, you must download them, re-upload, and re-link to them in WordPress. For videos, you cannot download them from Quick Blogcast in a WordPress-compatible format. You will need to upload your original version of the videos.

  5. Select whether you want to export Posts, Categories, Comments, or Trackbacks.
  6. Click Export, and then save the file to your computer.

To Import into WordPress

  1. Log in to WordPress as an administrator.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Import.

NOTE: If this widget is not installed WordPress will prompt to install it. You'll need to install and activate it before continuing.

  4. Browse to the file you saved from Quick Blogcast, and upload it into WordPress.

Exporting Your RSS Feed

Using the RSS feed function of QuickBlogcast you can export your QuickBlogcast posts to WordPress.

NOTE: These instructions have been tested on WordPress 3.9.

Export QuickBlogcast to WordPress

You need to verify that all of your QuickBlogcast entries are being displayed in your RSS feed, as this feed will be used to import your QuickBlogcast items into WordPress.

Change the Entries Displayed in your RSS Feed

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Click QuickBlogcast.
  3. Click Launch next to the QuickBlogcast account you want to modify.
  4. From Manage Blog, select Settings.
  5. Select the Posts tab.
  6. In the # of posts in feeds: field, enter a value greater than then number of posts on your blog. A greater value ensures you export all posts.

NOTE: You can only export your last 100 posts. If you have more than 100, you can perform one export, delete the 100 posts you exported, and then perform another export for the next 100.

  7. Click Apply.

Save your RSS Feed

Saving your RSS feed's content does not include your posts' images or audio files. However, those resources will continue to work because they're housed on the Quick Blogcast servers.

However, once we retire Quick Blogcast on June 25, 2014, those resources will stop working. We recommend downloading those resources individually and moving them to your new blogging platform.

  1. Go to your QuickBlogcast Website and click on the Posts RSS 2.0.
  2. In your Web browser, from the View menu, select Page Source or Source.
  3. A new page will open with the source of this RSS Feed. Select Save As from the File menu and save this file with a name you will remember.

NOTE: You must save the file using an .aspx extension. Mozilla® Firefox will do this by default, but you must manually enter the extension if you save using Microsoft® Internet Explorer.

Import RSS to WordPress

  1. Access your WordPress blog and log in as the administrator.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Import.
  3. Choose the RSS import option. (If this widget is not installed you will first need to install and active the widget).
  4. Browse to the file you saved.
  5. Click Upload file and import.

WordPress should now state that it is importing the entries, with a separate line indicating the import for each entry. You have now imported your QuickBlogcast entries to WordPress.

NOTE: If your blog contains a large number or posts, you may need to increase the disk space to display all posts.
