For most domain names, we can send authorization codes directly to the administrative contact's (admin) email address. If you have a .au domain name, we will send the authorization code to the registrant contact's email address as it displays in the Whois database. To update that email address, see Updating Your Domain Name Contact Information .

To Get an Authorization Code via Email (Active Domain Name)

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. Next to Domains, click Launch.
3. Do one of the following, based on the number of the domains in your account:
   • For 6 domains or fewer: Select the domain name you want to use, click (Settings) and select Domain Details.
   • For more than 6 domains: Click the domain you want to use.
4. At the bottom of the page, in the Authorization Code section, click Email my code.
5. Click Send.

If your domain name is expired but still in a recoverable status, we can send the authorization code to the administrative contact's (admin) email address for the domain name. If you have a .au domain name, we will send the authorization code to the registrant contact's email address as it displays in the Whois database. To update that email address, you must first recover the domain name. For more information, see Recovering Expired Domain Names and Updating Your Domain Name Contact Information.

To Get an Authorization Code via Email (Expired Domain Name)

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. Next to Domains, click Launch.
3. From Domains menu, select Expired Domains.
4. Select the domain names to email authorization codes for, click Email Authorization, and then click OK. We send the authorization code to the admin email address for the domain name.

Some domain name registries require authorization codes for transfers, but we cannot send them via email. If this rare exception occurs, you can create and download a file that contains the authorization code. See Downloading Exportable Lists in the Domain Manager for more information.

To Get an Authorization Code via Download

1. Log in to your Account Manager.
2. Next to Domains, click Launch.
3. Select your domains. From the More menu, select Export List.
4. Name your list. Then, for Select list type, select All My Domains.
5. Click Next.
6. Select your data columns, including Authorization Codes, and then click Next.
7. Do the following, and then click Finish:
   • Select file type — Select the type of file you want to export: CSV (Comma Separated Values) or XML (Extensible Markup Language).
   • Select Compression — Select GZ to create the file in compressed format. Otherwise, select None.

The country-code top-level domain names (ccTLDs) in the table below have unique authorization requirements.
