Performing a Traceroute in Microsoft Windows
If you are running Windows®, you can perform a traceroute using Command Prompt.
To Perform a Traceroute in Microsoft Windows
- From the Start menu, select Run.
NOTE: Windows® 8 users need to right-click the Start menu.
- Type cmd, and then click OK.
- Here you will find either MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt. A window will display with something similar to the following:

(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\windows>tracert INSERTDOMAIN.COM
(replace INSERTDOMAIN.COM with your domain name) and press Enter. - After the trace route has completed, right-click anywhere on this window and click Select All.
- Press Enter and the information will be copied to the Windows clipboard.
- Paste this into a text document (Notepad, WordPad, etc.).
