Using the SSL Installation Tool

If you are having difficulty with the installation or function of your SSL Certificate, use the SSL Installation Tool to help diagnose problems.

To Access the SSL Installation Tool

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Go to the SSL Installation Tool.
  3. Enter the domain name you want to search for.
  4. Click Change to edit the port if your SSL is installed on a port other than 443 (not typical), then click Validate Install.

Results display with details for each part of the "chain" (Browser, Server Certificate, Intermediate Certificate, and Trusted Root Certificate), along with recommendations for how to resolve any problems. Some common errors and resolutions are:

SSL Connection Failed — Unable to connect to the server on the specified port. It's possible that there's a problem with the server or routing to the server, a problem with the domain name entered, lack of SSL support on the port, or there might be other server configuration issues. Make sure you typed the domain name and port correctly, and check them against how you have the certificate installed. If you continue having problems, contact support.

SSL Chain of Trust is Broken — There's a problem with the intermediate certificate on your server. Select your server type in the Recommendations pane and follow the steps to reinstall. For more information, see What is an intermediate certificate?

SSL has expired — The certificate currently installed on your server has expired. SSL renewals are time sensitive and the process varies depending on when your SSL expired. Review Renewing Your SSL Certificate

SSL is revoked — The certificate currently installed on your server is revoked, which means that it is no longer valid. To get back up and running with an SSL on your Website, you need to purchase a credit and go through the request and install process again. See What does it mean to revoke an SSL certificate?

Common name in your SSL does not match the entered domain — The common name (domain name) in the certificate on your server doesn't match the common name in the certificate we issued. Double check that you have installed the correct certificate on your server and if you still have problems, see Changing the Common Name of a Certificate
