Which records count toward the 100-record limit in Standard DNS?
If you have Standard DNS, the basic version of our DNS Manager, you can create up to 100 DNS records per zone file (domain name). Whether a record counts toward the 100-record limit depends on where in our system you add it.
At any time, you can upgrade to Premium DNS, which offers unlimited DNS records per zone file. For more information, see Upgrading to Premium DNS.
Records that Count Toward the Limit
Records you add through the following methods count toward the 100-record limit per zone file:
- Zone File Editor — Any DNS records you create in the DNS Manager's Zone File Editor. For more information, see Managing DNS for Your Domain Names.
- Hosting Control Panel — Any subdomains you add in the Hosting Control Panel. Subdomains add A records to the Zone File Editor for the primary domain name. For more information, see Managing Your Hosting Account Subdomains.
NOTE: You can add as many subdomains through the Hosting Control Panel as you want, regardless of the 100-record limit per zone file. You can use and edit the subdomain's records, but, if you have more than 100, you cannot add more records through the Zone File Editor.
- Forwarded Subdomains — Any forwarded subdomains you add in the Domain Manager. Forwarded subdomains add A records to the Zone File Editor for the primary domain name. You can add up to 90 forwarded subdomains through the Domain Manager. For more information, see Managing a Domain Name's Forwarded Subdomains.
Records that Do Not Count Toward the Limit
Any secondary (aliased) domain names you add through the Hosting Control Panel do not count toward the 100-record limit per zone file. Instead, they create their own zone files that point to the A record of the hosting account's primary domain name. Therefore, each secondary domain name you create in the Hosting Control Panel has its own 100-record limit. For more information, see Managing Your Hosting Account Domains.
