About Google Websitemap Settings and Webmaster Tools
Website Builder allows you to customize a Websitemap of your website. You can also use Google® Webmaster Tools to easily submit your Website to Google for indexing.
Sitemaps created with Website Builder let Google know how often your Website is updated, and how to look at your Website. There are two Websitemap settings you can customize:
- Change Frequency
- Change Frequency tells Google how often you update a particular page. This is especially helpful if you update your Web page frequently.
- Priority
- Google Websitemaps allow you to prioritize your Web pages. You prioritize pages relative to their importance WITHIN your Website. This does not affect your search engine rankings. It tells search engines that certain pages on your Website are more important than others. For instance, you may want to call more attention to a home page, or a sales page. 0.0 is the lowest priority, 0.5 is the middle priority, and 1.0 is the highest priority. Assigning all of your pages a priority of 1.0 will not help your ranking.
To Customize Your Google Websitemap Settings
- Log in to your Website Builder account.
- From the Manage menu, select Google Websitemap.
- Select a Change Frequency and Priority for the pages you want to customize.
- Click OK.
Google Webmaster Tools
With Google® webmaster tools, your web pages are submitted to the Google index. You can get detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google, Websitemap details, and statistical information about your website. When you publish your Website with Website Builder, your Web pages are automatically submitted to Google and an account is created for your Website. Some additional features of Google Webmaster Tools include:
- Sitemap errors
- Advanced indexing information about your Website
- Query statistics about your Website
- Crawl statistics about your Website
- Page analysis of your Website
- URLs from your Website that Google was unable to crawl, and why Google couldn't crawl them
Note: If you already have a Google Webmaster Tools account, or have already submitted a Websitemap, a duplicate account will not negatively affect your account. The Google Webmaster Tools feature in Website Builder will not override previous accounts or submissions.
