Add a Subdomain That Points to an IP Address

Now that you understand what a subdomain is, you can add non-forwarded subdomains that point to IP addresses. If you want to forward a subdomain, see Forward a subdomain.

1. Log in to your GoWebsite account.
2. Next to Domains, click Manage.

2. Next to Domains, click Manage.

How you add a subdomain will depend on the view of your account.

Card View

In Card View, your account will look something like this:

1. Select the domain name you want to use, click (Settings) and select Manage DNS.
2. At the bottom of the Records list, click Add and select A from the Type drop-down menu.
3. Complete the other fields:
   • Host - Enter the subdomain you want to use.

     The subdomain can include a period (.) but not as the first or last character. Consecutive periods (...) are not allowed. A subdomain cannot exceed 25 characters.

   • Points to - Enter the IP address you want the subdomain to point to.
   • TTL - Select how long the server should cache the information.
4. Click Save.

List View

In List View, your account will look something like this:

1. Click the domain name you want to use.
2. Click the DNS Zone File tab.
3. Click Add Record.
4. From the Record type list, select A (Host).
5. Complete the following fields:
   • Host - Enter the subdomain you want to use.

     The subdomain can include a period (.) but not as the first or last character. Consecutive periods (...) are not allowed. A subdomain cannot exceed 25 characters.

   • Points to - Enter the IP address you want the subdomain to point to.
   • TTL - Select how long the server should cache the information.
6. Click Finish.
7. Click Save Changes. The new subdomain displays in the A (Host) section.

DNS can take up to 48 hours to propagate.
