Adding and Managing BlackBerry Hosted Exchange Email Devices

Before using a BlackBerry® smartphone with Hosted Exchange Email, you need to add the device in the Hosted Exchange Email control center.

NOTE: To use your BlackBerry smartphone with Hosted Exchange Email, you must have BlackBerry® Enterprise Server as part of your calling plan. For more information about BlackBerry Enterprise Server, refer to your carrier.

You must also have purchased an Individual Plus Blackberry Hosted Exchange Email plan.

Adding a BlackBerry to Use with Hosted Exchange Email

  1. Open the folder of the organization for which you want to add a mobile smartphone.
  2. Click the Blackberry Devices folder.
  3. Above your list of mobile devices, click Add Device.
  4. In the Add Mobile Device section, enter the BlackBerry smartphone PIN.
  5. In the Assign To field, select the user to whom you want to assign the mobile device.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select BlackBerry Devices, and then click the Activation icon.

We send the activation password to the email address we are setting up on your BlackBerry Smartphone. This password can take up to 24 hours to arrive. This is not your email account password.

WARNING: The password expires 48 hours after it is sent.

After adding a BlackBerry device, you can add Hosted Exchange Email to it. For more information, see Activating Your BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Hosted Exchange Email.

You can also manage your password settings, activation, resend the service book, and delete or wipe the smartphone.

Editing BlackBerry Smartphones

  1. Click the BlackBerry Devices folder.
  2. Select the BlackBerry smartphone you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Edit the settings.
  5. Click OK.

Deleting BlackBerry Smartphones from Your Account

  1. Click the BlackBerry Devices folder.
  2. Select the BlackBerry smartphone you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Select Delete Selected Device(s), and then click OK.

    NOTE: Deleting a device permanently deletes the BlackBerry from the account.

Setting Passwords on Your BlackBerry Smartphone

Setting a password on a BlackBerry® smartphone ensures only authorized viewers can access it when it's locked.

To Set a Password on a BlackBerry Smartphone

  1. Click the BlackBerry Devices folder.
  2. Select the BlackBerry smartphone for which you want to set a password.
  3. Click Password.
  4. Enter the new password.
  5. Click OK.

Generating Activation Codes for Your BlackBerry Smartphone

Activation codes allow you to enable your BlackBerry® smartphone to use with the carrier for which the smartphone is set.

To Generate an Activation Code

  1. Click the BlackBerry Devices folder.
  2. Select the BlackBerry smartphone for which you want to generate an activation code.
  3. Click Activation.
  4. Click OK.

Wiping BlackBerry Smartphones

From your Hosted Exchange Email account, you can wipe your BlackBerry® smartphone.

NOTE:Wiping the BlackBerry smartphone permanently deletes all of the information currently on the smartphone including contacts, text messages, email messages, and images.

To Wipe a BlackBerry Smartphone

  1. Click the BlackBerry Devices folder.
  2. Select the BlackBerry smartphone you want to delete from your account.
  3. Click Wipe.
  4. Select Wipe selected smartphone(s), and then click OK.

Purging Pending Messages on Your BlackBerry Smartphone

  1. Click the BlackBerry Devices folder.
  2. Select the BlackBerry smartphone for which you want to purge messages.
  3. Click Purge Pending.
  4. Select Purge pending messages for the selected smartphone(s), and then click OK.

Resending Service Books to Your BlackBerry Smartphone

If you encounter connectivity issues, you can resend the service book to a BlackBerry® smartphone.

To Resend the Service Book

  1. Click the BlackBerry Devices folder.
  2. Select the BlackBerry smartphone to which you want to send the service book.
  3. Click Resend Book.
  4. Select Resend Service Book to the selected smartphone(s), and then click OK.
