Changing Your Hosting Account's Domain Name

Changing the primary domain name on a hosting account lets you change the domain name associated with account's Web root directory.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • If you already added the domain name you want to use as your primary hosted domain name, you need to remove it first. You might also need to remove any subdomains of your primary domain name before you can change it. For more information, see Removing Domain Names from Your Hosting Account.
  • If you have an SSL certificate applied to your hosting account, you cannot change your primary hosted domain name without revoking your SSL. For more information, see Revoking an SSL Certificate.
  • WordPress® installations can break when you change your primary domain. If they do, see the instructions on WordPress's Website.

To Change Your Primary Hosted Domain

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Click Web Hosting or Managed WordPress.

Click one of the following, based on the type of hosting you have. You can tell this by the second word in your hosting's description beneath your hosting account's domain name, e.g. Deluxe Web correlates to Web/Classic (Hosting Control Panel).

  4. Enter the new primary domain for your account, and then click OK.
