Configuring Real Time Stats in Website Analytics
Real Time Stats let you see your Website statistics immediately. This feature obtains its data from JavaScript you place on each page, rather than retrieving it from the server log files, which are only updated after midnight each day.
Enabling Real Time Stats alone is not enough to collect data from your entire Website. You must also add the Real Time JavaScript to each page you want to track. To gather information about your entire Website, you must include the Real Time Stats JavaScript on every page of your website.
To Enable Real Time Stats and Find the JavaScript
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- In the My Products section, select Site Analytics.
- Next to the account you want to use, click Manage Account.
- From the Actions menu next to the domain you want to use, click Configuration.
- Select Enable Real Time Stats.
- Click the Lock Icon to display your Real Time Stats JavaScript to include on your website's pages. Instructions and tools to verify your JavaScript's implementation also display.
How it works
Site Analytics tracks your website's visitors through Real Time Stats JavaScript or, if we provide your hosting, through log files from your hosting account.
Real Time Stats JavaScript provides real-time information about your visitors, including which pages they visit and where they click — this information lets us generate "heat maps" of your pages. For more information, see Site Analytics Page Reports.
Log files provide different information about your website's visitors, including page errors, broken links, file accesses, resource types, and bandwidth usage. Unlike the information from Real Time Stats JavaScript, information from your log files updates daily.
To get the most information about your website's visitors, use Real Time Stats JavaScript with one of our hosting accounts. Real time Websites hosted locally allow us to do Hybrid processing. The Real Time Stats JavaScript provides all of the page access and visitor information, which we then augment with file data from the access logs, once a day.
