If you are the primary FTP user, you can secure your FTP connection using FTP-SSL. FTP-SSL encrypts the data transfer to and from your Shared Hosting account.
To use this option, you need a third party FTP client as most operating systems do not natively support FTP-SSL. Some popular clients are:
