Creating a Subdomain That Is Forwarded to an IP Address

Subdomains are extensions of your own domain(s) that you can forward to URLs, IP addresses, or directories within your hosting account. For example, if your domain name is example.com, you can create a subdomain like subdomain.example.com. You can also add multiple levels of subdomains. An example of this would be another.subdomain.example.com. Subdomains can be up to 25 characters long.
Note: These instructions create a subdomain that points to a specific IP address. To create a subdomain that forwards to a separate URL, see Creating and Forwarding a Subdomain.
Creating a Subdomain that is Forwarded to an IP Address
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- From the Domain Names menu, click Manage Domains. The Domain Manager opens.
- In your list of domain names, click on the domain name you want to use to create a subdomain. The details for the selected domain display on the page.
- In the Total DNS section, click Total DNS Control.
- In the A (Host) area, click Add New A Record.
- In the Host Name field, enter the subdomain name you want to use.
Note: The value entered may include '.' but not as the first or last character. Consecutive periods, '..', are not allowed. The entire value cannot exceed 25 characters.
- In the Points To IP Address field, enter the IP address you want your subdomain to point to.
- Click OK.
