Disabling JavaScript in Your Browser

Disabling JavaScript before you visit potentially harmful websites can help prevent malicious scripts from automatically executing and causing harm to your computer. However, please keep in mind that many websites use JavaScript, and disabling it could cause other websites to not function correctly.

To Disable JavaScript using Internet Explorer® in Windows®

1. Open the Tools menu, and select Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Make sure the Internet (globe) icon is selected, and then click Custom Level...
4. In the Settings list, scroll to Scripting.
5. Under Active Scripting, select Disable.
6. Click OK.
7. In the Warning! box, click Yes.
8. Click OK.

To Disable JavaScript using Mozilla Firefox® in Windows

1. Open the Tools menu, and select Options...
2. Click the Tools tab.
3. Click Enable JavaScript to remove the selection.
4. Click OK.

To Disable JavaScript using Google® Chrome on Windows

1. Click the wrench icon in the top right, and select Options.
2. Click the Under the Hood tab.
3. In Privacy, click Content Settings.
4. In the JavaScript section, select Do not allow any Website to run JavaScript.
5. Click Close.
6. Click Close.

To Disable JavaScript using Firefox on Mac® OS X

1. Open the Firefox menu, and click Preferences..
2. Click Tools.
3. Click Enable JavaScript to remove the selection.
4. Close the window.

To Disable JavaScript using Safari® on a Mac OS X

1. Open the Safari menu, and click Preferences..
2. Click the Security tab.
3. In Web Content, click Enable JavaScript to remove the selection.
4. Close Preferences.
