Managing Your Hosting Account Subdomains
A subdomain is an easy way to create a memorable Web address for unique content areas of your Website. For example, you could create a subdomain for pictures on your Website called "pics" that is accessible through the URL pics.example.com
in addition to www.example.com/pics
.
To Add Subdomains
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Web Hosting.
Click one of the following, based on the type of hosting you have. You can tell this by the second word in your hosting's description beneath your hosting account's domain name, e.g. Deluxe Web correlates to Web/Classic (Hosting Control Panel).
Web/Classic (Hosting Control Panel)
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Manage.
- From the More menu, select Hosted Domains.
- In the Domain Name column, click the domain name you want to use.
- Click Add Subdomain.
- Enter a single subdomain or multiple subdomains separated by a comma.
- Select whether the subdomain content will reside in a folder of the same name or a new or existing folder.
- Click Ok.

Linux (cPanel)
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Manage.
- In the Domains section, click Subdomains.
- Complete the following fields, and then click Create:
- Subdomain — Enter the subdomain you want to use for one of your hosted domain names.
- Select the domain name for which you want to create the subdomain.
- Document Root — Enter the directory you want to use as the root directory for the subdomain's website, or use cPanel's default.
You can also Remove subdomains from this page.
To Redirect Subdomains
- In cPanel, in the Domains section, click Subdomains.
- In the Modify a Subdomain section, next to the subdomain, click Manage Redirection.
- In the coolexample.com redirects to field, enter the URL you want to use, and then click Save.
Windows (Plesk)
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Manage.
- Click Add New Subdomain.
- Enter the Subdomain name you want to use.
NOTE: If you want to use a subdomain of a domain name not hosted on this account, you cannot add it as a subdmain. However, you can add it as a domain name to your hosting account. For more information, see Adding Domain Names to Your Hosting Account.
- Enter the Document root you want to use for the domain name. The contents of this directory will display when visitors access the URL.
- Click OK.
To Remove Subdomain
- At the bottom of the section of the subdomain hosting you want to remove, click Show More.
- Click Remove Subdomain.
- Click Yes.
