Managing Content Blocks in Website Tonight

With Website Tonight®, editing content blocks is quick and easy. You can work with content blocks from the Page Designer dashboard, or you can click on a content block to display the toolbar window.

You can perform most actions from the Page Designer dashboard, but you can edit content block properties only from the toolbar window. When you're finished, you can close the toolbar window so it no longer displays.

Adding a Content Block

Add content blocks where you want to insert them on your Web page.

To Add a Content Block

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. From the Design menu, click Page Designer.
  3. If necessary, from the Page list, select the page you want to edit.
  4. Click the container where you want to add the new content block. Containers are outlined in blue.
  5. Go to the Insert tab, and then select Block. Enter text and objects, and then click Save to close the block. You can always return later to make edits.

Deleting a Content Block

Deleting a content block permanently removes the entire block from your page.

To Delete a Content Block

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. From the Design menu, click Page Designer.
  3. If necessary, from the Page list, select the page that contains the block you want to delete.
  4. Click the block you want to clear. Blocks are outlined in blue.
  5. Click Delete Block.
  6. Click OK. The block no longer displays in your Web page.

Sharing a Content Block

You can share any content block. Sharing lets you place the same content on multiple pages. Any changes you make to a shared block will affect all of those shared blocks.

To Share a Content Block

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. From the Design menu, click Page Designer.
  3. If necessary, from the Page list, select the page that contains the block you want to share.
  4. Move your mouse to the block you want to share, and click on the block. Blocks are outlined in blue.
  5. From the Options tab, click Share. The Share Block window displays.
  6. For your shared block, select one of these options:
    • Share Block — Creates a new shared content block. In the Name field, enter a name for your shared content block, then click Create Shared Content.
    • Select Shared Block — Inserts existing shared content into the selected block. In the Content list, select the name of the content you want to insert, and then click Insert Shared Content.
  7. Shared content displays in the block you selected.

Clearing a Content Block

Clearing a content block removes only the content of the block. The block remains.

To Clear a Content Block

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. From the Design menu, click Page Designer.
  3. If necessary, from the Page list, select the page that contains the block you want to delete.
  4. Click the block you want to clear. Blocks are outlined in blue.
  5. From the Options tab, click Clear.
  6. Click OK. Content no longer displays in the content block.

Moving a Content Block

You can move a content block anywhere on a Web page.

To Move a Content Block

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. From the Design menu, click Page Designer.
  3. If necessary, from the Page list, select the page that contains the block you want to move.
  4. Perform one of the following actions:
    • Move your mouse to the block you want to move, click and hold the Move button, and then drag the block to the desired location on the page. Repeat as necessary.
    • Click on the block to display the toolbar window, and then from the Actions tab, click Move Up or Move Down.

Editing Properties of a Content Block

When you click on a content block, a toolbar window displays and lets you edit the block's properties, such as its background color or its border. You can click Lock or Unlock on the toolbar window to keep it locked in place or to move it.

To Edit Properties of a Content Block

  1. Log in to your Website Tonight account.
  2. From the Design menu, click Page Designer.
  3. If necessary, from the Page list, select the page that contains the block you want to edit.
  4. To edit the way your content blocks display, move your mouse to the block you want to edit, and then click on the block. The toolbar window displays.
  5. From the Properties tab, perform any of the following actions:
    • Adjust Background Color — Select a color to fill the background of the content block.
    • Adjust Border Color — Select a color for the border of the content block.
    • Adjust Border Size — Select a thickness for the border of the content block.
    • Adjust Border Type — Select solid, dotted, dashed, or double border.
    • Adjust Margin — Select a width for the space between the block and its contents.
    • Adjust Padding — Select a width for the space between content blocks.
  6. Click Save. The content block displays the new properties.
