Setting up Your Hosting Account
After you purchase a hosting plan, you need to set it up before you can use it to host your website.
To Set up Your Hosting Account
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Web Hosting or Managed WordPress.
Click one of the following, based on the type of hosting you have. You can tell this by the second word in your hosting's description beneath your hosting account's domain name, e.g. Deluxe Web correlates to Web/Classic (Hosting Control Panel).
Web/Classic (Hosting Control Panel)
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch.
- Select or enter the domain name you want to use.
- Click Upload Your Website. If you need any help, check out this topic.
If you're interested in WordPress®, see Setting Up Your WordPress Hosting Account. - If your domain name isn't currently registered here, select your transfer options.
- If your domain name isn't pointed toward our DNS servers, resolve the issues or skip this step.
For more information about using your hosting account, see Hosting Account Getting Started Guide.
For more information about using FTP, see Uploading Files to Your Website (FTP).
Linux (cPanel)
Setting up a cPanel shared hosting account changes your domain name's DNS records. This means your existing website and email addresses might stop working. If you're unsure if this will impact your website, please contact our support department.
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch.
- Complete the on-screen fields, and then click Finish.
You can use the New cPanel username and New cPanel password you create to log directly into cPanel at http://coolexample.com/cpanel, where coolexample.com is your domain name.
Windows (Plesk)
Setting up a Plesk shared hosting account changes your domain name's DNS records. This means your existing website and email addresses might stop working. If you're unsure if this will impact your website, please contact our support department.
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch.
- Complete the on-screen fields, and then click Finish.
Managed WordPress
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Launch.
- Click either Create a New WordPress Website or Migrate Your Existing WordPress Website.
- Complete the on-screen fields, and then click Finish.
NOTE: If you're migrating an existing WordPress Website, we recommend selecting a temporary domain name (more info).
If you choose to migrate an existing Website, we only let you use a temporary domain name. Don't worry! We do that so you can make sure your Website migrates without an issue. When you're ready to point your domain name at our servers, we make changing the domain name on the account really easy. Just follow the directions in Changing Your Hosting Account's Domain Name.
