Managing Sidebar Widgets in Quick Blogcast
The sidebar is the area on your Quick Blogcast® Website containing quick links to specific information pertaining to your blog. You can customize which widgets display, the order in which they display, and their display names.
Available Widgets
Depending on where you place your sidebar items, you can include any, all, or none of Quick Blogcast's widgets in your sidebar.
Available Widgets
- Bio Link — Lets you add a biography and an image to the sidebar.
- Blogroll — Lets you list hyperlinks to other websites, such as other blogs. For more information about this widget, see Managing Blogrolls in Quick Blogcast.
- Calendar — Inserts a calendar with links to dates containing posts you set. Visitors click a date to open the posts for that day.
- Category Archives — Displays an archived list of posts in your blog, organized by categories.
- Comment Showcase — Displays featured or "showcased" comments, which you select from the Manage Comments page. For more information selecting comments to display in this widget, see Managing Comments in Quick Blogcast.
- Custom Text — If you're a paid Quick Blogcast user, this widget lets you add custom text/HTML to your sidebar. For more information about this widget, see Managing Custom Text and HTML in Your Sidebar in Quick Blogcast.
- Feed List — Lists hyperlinks to all RSS and Atom feeds for your blog.
- Google Ad — If you're a paid Quick Blogcast user who has signed up for Google® AdSense, this widget lets you add Google Ad advertisements to your sidebar. For more information about this widget, see Managing Google Ads on Your Sidebar in Quick Blogcast.
- Monthly Archives — Adds an archive of posts in your blog organized by month.
- Quick Blogcast Player — Lets visitors listen to or watch your podcast while continuing to browse your Website or the Internet. Add the player to your sidebar and, when a visitor clicks the player, a new podcast player window displays. This window lets listeners enjoy your podcast without having to remain on the blogcast page.
- Recent Comments — Adds a list of recent comments to posts in your blog.
- Recent Posts — Adds a list of recent posts to your blog.
- Search — Inserts a search field letting visitors find the blog posts that interest them. Visitors can perform a basic search, using keywords to search only in titles, or an advanced search, specifying the location (titles, content, all) and a date range for the post search.
- Subscribe Via Email — Adds a link to a subscription form letting contacts receive posts and comments through email. This widget displays on the sidebar under the Subscribe heading.
- Tag Cloud — Displays the top 20 tags you use in your blog. Tags are displayed larger or smaller depending how frequently you use them on your blog. For more information about this widget, see Managing the Tag Cloud in Quick Blogcast .
- Twitter Link — Adds a Twitter link to your sidebar. Twitter is a social blogging service letting users submit posts through instant messaging, SMS, or the Twitter website. For more information about this widget, see Managing Twitter Links in Quick Blogcast.
Widget Locations
You can place widgets in several locations on your Quick Blogcast sidebar.
Widget Locations
- Available Widgets — In the Available Widgets area, you can view a list of the widgets not currently on your blog but available for adding to it.
- Active Widgets — In the Active Widgets area, you can view a list of all the widgets you've selected to use in your sidebar.
NOTE: Certain templates support multiple sidebars. If the template you selected supports multiple sidebars, two Active Widget areas display: Active Widgets Left and Active Widgets Right.
- Deleted Widgets — In the Deleted Widgets area, you can view a list of the widgets you recently deleted. You can permanently delete them from the sidebar by clicking Save.
Adding a Widget to Your Sidebar
With Quick Blogcast, you can easily add a widget to your blog's sidebar.
To Add a Widget to Your Sidebar
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Quick Blogcast.
- Click Launch next to the blog account you want to modify.
- From the Design menu, select Sidebar Widgets.
- From the Available Widgets list, drag the widget you want to add to your sidebar to the Active Widgets list.
- If applicable, click
(Edit Widget), and enter the information the widget requires. For example, you can change the display name for some widgets.
- Click Save (in the bottom-right of the Sidebar Widgets page).
Deleting a Widget from Your Sidebar
With Quick Blogcast, you can easily delete a widget from your blog's sidebar.
To Delete a Widget from Your Sidebar
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Quick Blogcast.
- Click Launch next to the blog account you want to modify.
- From the Design menu, select Sidebar Widgets.
- In the Active Widgets list, click
(Remove Widget) for the widget you want to delete.
- Click Save (in the bottom-right of the Sidebar Widgets page). The widget moves to the Available Widgets list.
Arranging Widgets on Your Sidebar
with Quick Blogcast, you can easily arrange the widgets on your blog's sidebar.
To Arrange Widgets on Your Sidebar
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Quick Blogcast.
- Click Launch next to the blog account you want to modify.
- From the Design menu, select Sidebar Widgets.
- In the Active Widgets list, drag the item you want to move to a new position.
- Click Save (in the bottom-right of the Sidebar Widgets page).
