Finding Your Hosting/FTP Login or User Name
To upload content to your website, you need your hosting username and password. This article shows you how to find your account's username; if you need help with your password, see Resetting Your Hosting Account (FTP/Panel) Password or Changing Its Username.
To Locate Your Hosting Username
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Web Hosting.
Click one of the following, based on the type of hosting you have. You can tell this by the second word in your hosting's description beneath your hosting account's domain name, e.g. Deluxe Web correlates to Web/Classic (Hosting Control Panel).
Web/Classic (Hosting Control Panel)
- Next to the account you want to use, click Manage.
- From the Settings section, click FTP Users.
Your FTP Username displays.
If you have a Linux or Windows IIS7 Web Hosting account, you can change your Primary FTP User name by clicking Actions, and then Change Password. To see if you have a Web Hosting account, visit What type of hosting account do I have?
Linux (cPanel)
- Next to the hosting account you want to use, click Manage.
- In the Files section, click FTP Accounts.
Each of your FTP account's login/user name displays in the Login column next to the user.
Your primary cPanel user displays as the first account in the Special FTP Accounts section.
All usernames besides the primary user include @[your account's primary domain name] — you must use the entire username when connecting this account via FTP.
In cPanel, you cannot change FTP accounts' login/user names or their paths. However, you can remove an FTP account, and then create a new one. For more information, see:
